🚀 Innovate Your Future: PLTW Pre-Engineering Program at STCTC

The Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Pre-Engineering program at the Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center (STCTC) is designed to transform students from consumers of technology into innovative creators and problem-solvers. This multi-year pathway provides a rigorous, hands-on experience that challenges students to apply math, science, and technical concepts to design real-world solutions.

💡 Core Program Experience

PLTW Engineering at STCTC follows a robust curriculum recognized nationally for preparing students for university engineering programs and high-tech careers.

●       Design & Problem-Solving: Students learn the fundamentals of the engineering design process, from conceptualizing ideas to testing and refining prototypes.

●       Applied Skills: You'll gain valuable experience using industry-standard software, including 3D modeling and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.

●       Collaboration: The project-based learning model emphasizes teamwork, critical thinking, and communication, skills essential for success in any technical field.

📐 Course Sequence

The Pre-Engineering (PLTW) program is structured as a technical completer course pathway, which typically includes:

Course Title

Focus

Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)

Basics of engineering graphics, 3D modeling, and the design process.

Principles of Engineering (POE)

Explores a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, energy, and statics.

Mechatronics 1 and 2

Mechatronics introduces the fundamental concepts of integrating mechanical, electrical, and computer control systems. Explores a range of topics, including DC and AC electricity fundamentals to designing and building a complete mechatronic system.

Successful completion of these courses provides students with the foundational knowledge often needed for post-secondary technical studies.

🌟 College & Career Advantage

Graduates of the STCTC PLTW Engineering program are equipped for success in the next phase of their academic or professional journey:

●       College Credit & Recognition: PLTW courses may qualify students for college credit or advanced standing at partner universities and technical colleges across the country.

●       Career Pathways: The program lays the groundwork for majors and careers in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, and Aerospace Engineering, as well as roles in Architecture, Manufacturing, and Technical Design.

●       STEAM Academy Integration: The program is a core component of the school's Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mechatronics (STEAM) Academy, providing a focused academic and career environment.
