The Agricultural Education program at the Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center (STCTC) is a comprehensive, hands-on pathway that prepares students for the diverse and evolving fields of Animal Systems, Plant Systems, and Agribusiness. Utilizing a blend of science, technology, and practical skills, our program ensures students are ready for college, technical certification, or immediate employment in South Carolina's vital agriculture sector.

Foundational Science

Agricultural Science and Technology

Principles of biology, genetics, soil science, sustainability, and the application of modern technology in agriculture.

Animal Health

Animal Science, Small Animal Care, and Introductory Veterinary Science

Anatomy, physiology, nutrition, breeding, disease prevention, and basic care for both large and companion animals.

Plant Production

Introduction to Horticulture and Nursery, Greenhouse and Garden Center Technology

Plant propagation, landscape design, greenhouse management, pest control, and the business/marketing of horticultural products.

Mechanics & Equipment

Agricultural Mechanics and Technology and Equipment Operation and Maintenance

Welding, fabrication, power tool usage, hydraulic systems, and the safe operation, repair, and service of farm and heavy machinery.

 

 

🌟 The Three-Component Model (SAE, FFA, Instruction)

 

Success in the STCTC Ag Program is built upon the nationally recognized three-part model of agricultural education:

1.    Classroom/Lab Instruction: Rigorous, science-based technical knowledge.

2.    FFA (Future Farmers of America): Students develop premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through competitive events (CDEs/LDEs), conferences, and community engagement.

3.    Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE): Hands-on, work-based learning projects managed by the student outside of class, like entrepreneurship, placement on a farm, or agricultural research.
