Introduction
The Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center (STCTC) in Johnston, South Carolina hosts an active and vibrant chapter of the National FFA Organization through its Agricultural Science program. This chapter provides students with opportunities in leadership, agriculture‑science education, and real‑world application of skills, following the three‑component model of classroom instruction, FFA experiences, and supervised
agricultural experiences.

Mission and Purpose
The mission of the Strom Thurmond FFA Chapter is to prepare students for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success in agriculture and related fields. By combining rigorous academic and technical instruction with hands‑on projects and leadership development, the chapter aims to empower students to be confident, skilled, and prepared for college, careers, and community involvement.

Programs and Activities
 

Agricultural Science Pathway: Students pursue pathways including Animal Systems, Plant Systems, and Agribusiness. The program emphasizes biology, genetics, soil science, greenhouse and garden technologies, equipment operation, and more.


FFA Engagement:

Students engage in competitions (career development events, leadership development events), attend state conventions, and participate in service and awareness activities like National FFA Week.

Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE):

Students plan and carry out agricultural‑based projects outside the classroom—such as animal care, horticulture, equipment mechanics, or agribusiness ventures.

Achievements and Recognition:
The chapter has a proven track record of success, including honors at the South Carolina FFA Convention and consistent visibility in local news. Participation in state-level events demonstrates the strength of the program.
