JOHNSTON – The Strom Thurmond Career & Technology Center FFA Chapter was named the State Champion Team at the South Carolina FFA Farm Business Management Career Development Event held at Clemson University on June 13, 2018 as part of the 91st Annual South Carolina FFA State Convention.  Members of the first place team included: Madelyn Wise (First Place Highest Individual), Beth Verdery (Second Place Highest Individual), Anna Kate Hightower (Third Place Highest Individual), Truett Taylor and alternate member Ashley Mims.  “The team really pulled together and put forth a tremendous amount of effort in practicing and preparing for this event” said Jeremy Brooks the team’s coach and FFA advisor.

FFA teams from eight chapters across South Carolina participated in this year’s competition designed to provide the students an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Farm Business Management.  The thirty-two students who participated in the event completed a two hour written test which had sections on marketing, income analysis, financial planning, taxes, and general agricultural economics. The team members will now work to prepare for the National Farm Business competition which will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana this fall.
